May is Mental Health Awareness Month

This month, the Langlade County Health Department is sharing information across the county in recognition of Mental Health Month. You may see information at various locations throughout Langlade County.

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is free, confidential, and open 24 hours a day. Anyone can call or text 988 to get help during a mental health crisis or if they are worried about someone else.

The Health Department is also promoting CredibleMind, a free online mental health platform for all Langlade County residents. CredibleMind offers tools to help with stress, anxiety, depression, and sleep. It includes videos, articles, and simple ways to build healthy habits.

Langlade County Health Department Launches Radon Awareness Campaign and Community Food Drive

Radon is a naturally occurring, colorless, and odorless gas that can seep into homes through cracks in foundations and other openings. Long-term exposure to elevated radon levels is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, and the leading cause among non-smokers.

To encourage participation, the department is also hosting a Community Food Drive in conjunction with its radon awareness campaign. During the months of January and February, anyone who brings in a non-perishable food donation to the Health Department, will receive a radon test kit for $8 (normally $10).

January is Radon Action Month- Now is the time to test your home

January is National Radon Action Month and The Langlade County Health Department is offering community members a $2 off coupon on a short-term radon test kit. Radon is a cancer-causing radioactive gas that you cannot see, smell, or taste. Over half of the homes tested in Langlade County during 2022 had elevated levels of radon. The best time to test is during the winter months when windows and doors are closed.
