Holiday Season Safety First

Holiday Season Safety First

Safety is always a big issue, especially now when you’re tired, stressed, and always in a hurry. Some of the basics to remember are:

  • Try to get plenty of rest. This will put you at less risk for accidents and for getting sick.
  • When driving, take a few extra minutes to remove snow and ice form the windows, roof, and hood of the vehicle. Clean headlights and tail lights as well. Allow the vehicle to warm up to keep windows from fogging up. Keep the vehicle in good running condition. Remember to drive defensively!
  • If you have a live Christmas tree, choose a fresh one that is not shedding needles. Add water daily. A dry tree is a dangerous fire hazard! Place the tree away from sources of heat, but close enough to electrical outlets to eliminate the use of extension cords. Check all lights for frayed or damaged wire or lose connections.

These are just a few suggestions for keeping the holidays safe and an enjoyable time for everyone. For more tips call your local Health Department. Merry Christmas and a Healthy, Safe & Happy New Year!
